Product Description
Homeguard's Floodproof Barrier is designed to be a heavy duty robust barrier against flooding that can be easily installed and removed and used over and over again in times of emergency. When it is not required it can be stored away until it is needed.
The barrier is made from 18mm (3/4 inch) Marine Plywood with a steel border attached on three sides. Rubber seal strips are bonded to the sides and bottom. Four sliding bolts are fitted to the barrier, two on each side. These are operated by thumb screws. When the bolts are pushed home the thumb screws are screwed down locking the bolts in place.
The barrier is fitted into two steel channels that are fitted to the masonry on either side, either surface fixed to the exterior or reveal fixed into a recess. The channels have rubber sealing strips bonded to the back so that when attached to the masonry they form a water tight joint. They are fixed with counter sunk bolts into sleeve anchors that are fitted into the masonry by means of a masonry drill. When not required the bolts are undone with a key, the bars removed and stored until needed again; or the bars can be left in place permanently.
The masonry and door threshold or window sill must be prepared before fitting. They must be as smooth and level as possible to ensure a water tight seal. On brick work the mortar joints should be filled until they are level with the brick surface. The threshold must be wide enough to take the width of the barrier and side bars. Build out if necessary.
To install the barrier fix the side channels to the masonry ensuring that the rubber seals are in contact with the masonry along the full length. Then slide the barrier into the channel sections ensuring it slides evenly to the bottom with the rubber seal resting on the threshold or window sill. Push the bolts home as far as they will go making a water tight joint. Tighten the thumb screws as far as they will go to lock the bolts in place.
To remove, undo the thumb screws, slide the bolts open and lift the barrier out. Undo the fixing bolts in the channel sections and remove the side bars. Replace the bolts in the sleeve anchors to ensure dirt does not get into the thread. Carefully clean all pieces and store until needed again.
All steel work has been galvanized to prevent rusting and the channel side bars finished with powder coating. The barrier itself has been primed and painted.
Care should be taken when lifting the barrier in view of its weight. Do not drop it into the side channels. Care must also be taken to ensure the rubber seals are not damaged.
